Jury demands in cases where the claim for damages is $50,000 or less

Under Public Act 94-0206 which will become effective January 1, 2006, in a claim for damages of $50,000.00 or less the case will be tried by a jury of six unless either party demands a jury of 12. Before Public Act 94-0206 a jury of six only applied to cases of $15,000.00 or less. This amount has been raised to $50,000.00 and it should be noted that a jury demand of 12 will be necessary if either of the parties so requires or desires.
